Productive Weekend!

This weekend has been extremely productive for me. This has been the first weekend in a long time that I haven't been really busy or out of town. On Thursday, Neil headed to Nashville with EA to meet with management and then off to North Carolina for a concert with EA. This month their CD comes out, so they have many meetings and preparations for the release. I am so excited! We are so ready for this album to hit stores!

Since I am home by myself this weekend, I have been able to get so many things done. On Friday after work I made my first pound cake. Being a woman from the South, I think it is important I know how to cook. I have always grown up with my mom and my grandmother cooking big meals and baking. My mom always had a pie, cake, or cookies in the house! With my teaching job the way it is, I rarely have time to cook or bake anything because I'm never home. I got my new Southern Living Magazine in the mail and saw a recipe for a key lime pound cake. I knew I had to give it a try. It took me about 2 hours to complete the whole thing- bake time and all, but it turned out delicious! I swear- it looks straight out of a cook book. I was very proud of myself. You can ask Neil- I have had my share of kitchen disasters, so when this cake turned out pretty AND edible, I was stoked!

Today I cleaned the house a bit and then filed my taxes. I dread filing my taxes every year, but I'm glad I went ahead and got them done. One less thing to worry about!

Tomorrow I'm off to another performance with my company girls from the studio. I really couldn't ask for a better group of girls. They all work so hard and are so positive. I love teaching them! Last weekend we had our first dance competition. They did really well- I feel like a proud mother! I am so blessed to get to do what I love for a living.

On top of the performance tomorrow, I have to start choreography for our June Show. I'm really excited to get started on choreography for this year's recital- we start on Monday. It's always a big deal when we start choreography- we reveal the theme for the recital and the girls get to see the costumes. It's such a fun week!

Well, I'm off to bed so I'm ready for my day of dance tomorrow!

Princess Crowns and Christmas Presents

I have finally found time to get on my computer in the past two weeks! We have been busy preparing at the studio for our 7th annual Holiday Show. When you consider costumes, tickets, dress rehearsals, seven sold out shows, and hundreds of students, it takes alot of work and preparation on our end to put it together! All of us have been pulling 13-15 hour days for the past week and I feel like I have been hit by a truck! This is the first day I have had to just sit and relax. It has really been great! I have to admit though, watching the girls perform is extremely rewarding. It makes all of the hard work pay off. I love to watch the parents watch their little ones! You know there is nothing is sweeter than a four year-old in a tutu and a princess crown!

Through all of this work lately, I've been slacking in the Christmas shopping department. We have all of our big gifts done, but still have to buy for all of our extended family. I absolutely love shopping this time of year! I'm glad I can finally say that- for the past five years I have worked retail and dreaded the Black Friday door-busters, the long hours, and the days of returns after Christmas. Working at the mall around this time can certainly change your opinion of people around Christmas. I certainly did not encounter much "peace on earth" or "good will towards men," but now that I'm on the other side of the counter, I love it! Make sure to be polite to your retail clerks this Holiday Season, they deserve a Merry Christmas too! An encouraging word can go a long way!

Neil has made some chili in the crock pot (I just woke up from a three hour nap... oops) and I see a movie and a cup of hot chocolate in my near future! I can't wait to spend time with him, I feel like I haven't seen him all week- I have the best husband!

It's about time...

Ok, I am finally writing on our blog. It's been an interesting journey trying to get acquainted to this... Needless to say, I'm not the most technology-savvy of the group.

So, I figured for the first blog, it would only be appropriate to use it as sort-of an introduction. I am married to Echoing Angel's talented, somewhat boisterous, and very handsome keyboard player, Neil. We will have been married for two years this fall, and I couldn't be happier! When I'm not at home, I'm working at a dance studio in North Georgia as a full-time studio manager and part-time teacher/choreographer. I figured it is only fitting that my first blog be on NATIONAL DANCE DAY! If you don't know what that is, check it out!

Anyway, I have grown up dancing and exploring the arts. I absolutely love anything that has to do with dance or theatre. So instead of getting a degree in something useful like accounting or nursing, I decided to follow my heart and obtain a liberal arts degree in dance and theatre. I figured one day I might end up living in a cardboard box, but at least I knew I would be happy! I never ended up dancing professionally, but I knew God has other plans. Because I never moved up to New York or Chicago to really "Do the Starving Artist Thing" I always sort of felt like I have missed out on certain life experiences. However, because I have chosen to pursue a career in teaching, I have found a new love for choreography. I absolutely love creating a work that means something, and seeing it come to life onstage through my students. It is one of the most rewarding experiences for a teacher. Don't get me wrong though, I still love to take classes and I really miss performing sometimes, but I have really enjoyed learning how to become a teacher and choreographer these past three years. Even though my name is not in lights, and I'm not dancing for some fabulous modern company in New York, I am still using God's gifts in a way that I can share it with others, and to me that is even better.
